Introduction
In “They Always Come Back” Avery and her best friend Paige move to Nevada after college with Paige’s cats, Toby and Leo. Avery convinces Paige to move for the life and the fun while really it’s because she can no longer stand to stay in a place filled with memories of her narcissistic ex. This book encapsulates friendships that remind me of my own growing up, and romantic choices and the hope that a guy just has a little more to him.
Summary (Spoiler-free)
I read They Always Come Back in one sitting. Paige is my favorite character, she is the overprotective, fun outgoing best friend that everyone wants to have and reminds me a lot of my own. She is overprotective of Avery but also not afraid to call her out and tell her what she needs to hear rather than what she wants to. When Paige and Avery meet Hannah in their new apartment complex, everything comes together. Hannah is the perfect balance for Avery and Paige’s friendship. When they move to Nevada, Avery and Paige decide to hit up the pool party at their complex where they meet Kyle. Kyle is the security guard that, “doesn’t date residents.” This does not stop Avery from wanting to change his ways. Of course, and probably the most relatable aspect of all, she makes excuses for him to her friends through everything. There was times I wanted to just shake Avery and other times I realized that I had been Avery.
“The treatment that I accepted was a direct reflection of what I thought of myself.”

What I loved
I loved the friendship between Avery, Paige and Hannah. I even loved the cats; Toby, Leo and Tubs (maybe a surprise too). Bailey, I speak for all cat lovers, I would read a novella just about the cats in the cafe. I really liked that I placed these characters so easily. Paige reminds me a lot of my best friend, overprotective and fierce. Avery reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger, making all the right excuses for the wrong guys. Even Hannah felt like a friend I have known.
