In the sequel to The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, The Hawthorne Legacy takes us on a new journey. Avery and the Hawthorne boys are set out on the game to find Tobias Hawthorne II, along with help from Rebecca and Thea. We even get the best surprise visit from Maxine. Libby and Nash travel all the way to Costa Rica to help.
I will try not to give everything away. As I have said before, Barnes is the best at puzzles and mystery and will have you second guessing yourself at every turn. Always in the best way of course.
There is reason enough from the first book to figure that Toby is alive. Moreso because Avery recognized Toby as Henry who she used to play chess with in the park after her mother passed.
So, in this book they follow the clues leading all the way back to the fire where Toby first disappeared. A night that took the lives of three others. A night where their grandfather blamed the entire thing on the one girl in the house that burned that had a record.
The story is never what it seems. We learn so much about the background of Avery, her mother’s past and how it connects to Avery’s future.
In The Inheritance Games series, this is definitely one of my favorites as it brings us closer to each character. The ending will leave you pulling for the next book.
I can’t wait to read it together.
