introduction
The House in The Cerulean Sea is a cozy book that is absolutely perfect to read wrapped in a blanket staring out the window on a rainy day. This is the first book in the series. It follows a case worker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. We are introduced to Linus Baker who is a 40 year old man who lives with his cat and his old music records. He takes his job very seriously. Therefore, he is called before Extremely Upper Management for a special assignment.
“Hate is loud, but I think you’ll learn it’s because it’s only a few people shouting, desperate to be heard. You might not ever be able to change their minds, but so long as your remember you’re not alone, you will overcome.”

about the book
The House in The Cerulean Sea has been described by V.E. Schwab as, “being wrapped up in a big gay blanket.” I cannot think of a better description. Also, it is a love story that makes you want to sit the Antichrist on your lap and read him a bedtime story. You can purchase a copy by clicking the title where this blog receives a small commission. Or find it on Libby, the Library app.

“You’re too precious to put into words. I think … it’s like one of Theodore’s buttons. If you asked him why he cared about them so, he would tell you it’s because they exist at all.”
summary (spoiler-free)
Linus Baker is called in front of Extremely Upper Management to spend a month on a remote island. This is a highly classified assignment where six dangerous children are housed. He receives a folder with information on the children and on the manager of the house, Arthur Parnassus. Then, during this month, he sends back weekly findings to the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. Finally, everything that comes after is eye opening and will change Linus’s life forever.
“Just because you don’t experience prejudice in your everyday doesn’t stop it from existing for the rest of us.”
what i loved
This book is one of those that I would do just about anything to read again for the first time. The characters are an amazing group. I would do anything to take a visit myself to The House in The Cerulean sea. Finally, TJ Klune has shown what will happen when those who are different stand together and that hope will be found in the most unlikely of places.
